OHS ACT AND REGULATIONS COURSE
1. DURATION OF COURSE – 2 Day course
2. PURPOSE OF THE COURSE
The Occupational Health and Safety Act regulate and control health and safety in most organisations in South Africa. The prescriptions of this Act create minimum standard legislation for different persons that needs to be complied with. The main objective of this course is to equip role players with the knowledge and understanding of the Act and general regulations, aiding and ensuring legal compliance. Typical role players include persons such as employers, self employed persons, engineers, employees, contractors, designers, manufactures, importers, sellers and suppliers.
Delegates will be updated with the newest amendments to the OHS Act and applicable regulations.

- Environmental Regulations for Workplaces

Module 3: Health Related Regulations
- Hazardous Chemical Substances Regulations
- Noise Induced Hearing Loss Regulations
- Regulations for Hazardous Biological Agents
3.2 DAY TWO
Module 4: Machinery Regulations
- Driven Machinery Regulations
- General Machinery Regulations
- Lift, Escalators and Passenger Conveyor Regulations
- Pressure Equipment Regulations
Module 5: Electrical Regulations
- Electrical Installation Regulations
- Electrical Machinery Regulations
Module 6: Specific Regulations
- Regulations of Hazardous Work by Children in SA
4. COURSE OUTCOMES
After attending this program the learner will have a clear understanding of the principles and statues of the OHS Act as well as the detailed prescriptions of the relevant regulations.
As a qualifying learner you should be capable of:
- Understanding the principles and statues of health and safety legislation
- Explaining the basic requirements stipulated by legislation
- Understanding the legal specifications and requirements stipulated by the OHS regulations
- Understanding the administrative duties stipulated by legislation
- Understanding record keeping required by legislation
- Implementing health and safety at the workplace (Management system)
- Maintaining and monitoring health and safety at the workplace
5. SPECIAL COURSE PACKAGE
Participants will receive a student manual, a ‘‘Abridged version of the Occupational Health and Safety Act’’ as well as ‘‘health and safety toolkit ’’. The toolkit is in cd format and provides valuable information, aiding the employer with the implementation and management of health and safety (Legal appointment letters, contractual agreements, policies and procedure, prescribed schedules and annexure’s, general OHS checklists as well as checklists).
